Survivor-centred support in Uganda
We work with communities to challenge the silence around sexual violence, raising awareness and confronting the norms that allow it to continue, so safer environments can take shape.
Sexual violence often stays hidden. People don’t talk about it, don’t question it, and many simply don’t know what to do when it happens. Silence, fear, and cultural norms can end up protecting the violence instead of stopping it.
That’s why prevention matters. Communities need to understand what they’re seeing, feel confident to speak up, and have the right support systems in place to respond early—before more harm is done.
Our prevention work starts with the communities we’re part of. We work alongside schools, families, local leaders, and others on the ground – building awareness, encouraging people to speak up, and questioning the norms that allow abuse to go unchecked.
It’s not about delivering messages and moving on. It’s about changing how people respond day to day – so signs of abuse are noticed earlier, spoken about more openly, and less likely to be ignored or hidden.
Our prevention work equips schools, families, and communities to recognise abuse earlier, challenge harmful norms, and respond more safely before more harm is done.
