Social Media Policy

Introduction

At Totya Platform, our mission is to create safe spaces for survivors of sexual violence, and this extends to our online platforms. We are committed to fostering respectful, constructive, and safe digital communities. Our social media policy outlines the terms for engaging with Totya Platform’s social media community, currently spanning Facebook, X, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn and totya.org.

The following rules and guidelines (“Rules”) are set to protect not only community members but also vulnerable groups, especially children, from exposure to harmful content, including online sexual violence. By using or contributing to Totya Platform’s social media channels, you agree to comply with these updated rules, which reflect the latest best practices in online safety.

Moderation of the Community

We monitor the Community during business hours (8 am–6 pm GMT+3, Monday to Friday, 10 am–3 pm on Saturdays and Uganda public holidays) to ensure all content aligns with our updated acceptable use standards. We strive to remove harmful content, particularly anything that could endanger or exploit children. Contributions that violate these terms will be removed, and users may face suspension or termination of access.

While we moderate the Community, we disclaim responsibility for third-party content and are not liable for any harm caused by such content. We retain the right to suspend moderation activities at any time.

Protection of Children and Vulnerable Individuals

The safety of children and vulnerable individuals is our utmost priority. We have a zero-tolerance policy towards the dissemination of any content that endangers children or facilitates sexual exploitation online.

Acceptable Use Standards

We aim to foster an open, caring, and respectful community. Users of Totya Platform’s social media must adhere to the following principles.

Use of Media (Images, Videos, and Live Streams)

Given the increasing use of multimedia on social platforms, we require users to refrain from posting images or videos of children without explicit parental consent. All media content shared in the Community must uphold the dignity and rights of survivors, ensuring that no sensitive or exploitative material is published.

Best Practices for Sharing Multimedia Content:

Copyright and Data Protection

All contributions to Totya Platform’s Community must respect copyright laws. By submitting content, you grant Totya Platform a non-exclusive, perpetual license to use, modify, and distribute the material. Any personal data shared within the community will be handled per our privacy policies, and data related to children will receive additional protection to prevent unauthorised access or misuse.

Reporting Abuse or Harmful Content

If you encounter any content that you believe violates these rules, particularly regarding child safety, please report it to us immediately at info@totya.org. We will take swift action to remove harmful content and notify relevant authorities where necessary.

Updates to These Rules

We may update this policy periodically to reflect changes in law or our commitment to safeguarding the digital community. Please review these rules regularly. Your continued use of the Community signifies your acceptance of any changes.

Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Rules are governed by the Laws of the Republic of Uganda, and disputes will be settled in Ugandan courts. If any part of these Rules is deemed unlawful or unenforceable, it will not affect the validity of the remaining provisions.
